World Refugee Day: Kharkiv, Slov'yansk, Dnipro, Odesa

World Refugee Day in Kharkiv region — an event was held at a place of temporary residence in the city of Zmiiv, which united displaced people, local and international non-governmental organizations, and local authorities.
 
"The Tenth of April" together with "Proliska" with the support of the UN Refugee Agency in Ukraine organized an event aimed at the integration of internally displaced persons (IDPs) into the local community through the active participation of local residents.
The mayor of Zmiyev, Pavlo Holodnikov, joined the event: "Internally displaced persons are a part of our great community. And the support of this category of people will continue to be undeniable."
 
Pavlo thanked the UN Refugee Agency and their partners for their active support in achieving this important goal.
 
The representative of the UN Refugee Agency, Teddy Leposky, also addressed the audience and expressed support for the participants of the event, noting the importance of efforts to integrate IDPs into the local community.
 
The meeting was full of activity:
- various cultural and educational events aimed at promoting mutual understanding, emotional relief and unity of the local population and internally displaced persons;
- informational event for adults and children from the NGO "Proliska";
- a master class on the making of a Motanka doll by Olga Kolinko, a craftswoman from the city of Zmiiv.
 
All residents of the collective center received blankets and hygiene kits from the NGO "Proliska".

"Embraces of goodness" - under the name residents of Slov'yansk and Kramatorsk attended an event dedicated to the World Refugee Day, organized by "The Tenth of April" together with a number of non-governmental organizations of Donetsk region.

Among the guests of the event were local residents of Donetsk region, internally displaced persons (in particular, representatives of the Roma community), and returnees.

Participants expanded their knowledge about the rights and opportunities for IDPs, refugees and the assistance they can receive, as well as useful contacts where it can be received.

An interactive program for emotional relief was held for the children of the guests, and at the end they received sweets as gifts.

The event was organized jointly with other organizations of the public sector of the Donetsk region: "Right to Protection" Charity Foundation, "Slavic Dream" Charity Foundation, NGO "Dobry Rukh", NGO "Civil Society Center "Drukarnia"" and with the support of the UN Refugee Agency in Ukraine.

In Dnipro, civic organization "The Tenth of April" in partnership with NGO "Right to Protection" and NGO "Rise of Ukraine" organized a social cohesion event "Good wins". The purpose of this event is to draw attention to the problems of people who were forced to seek shelter and safety outside their homes and to support them in difficult times.

The event was held in the city of Dnipro on the basis of the hub of "Rise of Ukraine".A rich program awaited the participants during the event:
- at the beginning of the event, everyone had the opportunity to watch the film "Europe through the eyes of Ukrainians" from the "The Tenth of April". The film was created from videos shot by Ukrainian refugees in Europe.
- children and adults took part in the watercolor painting master class with pleasure
- also for parents, specialists of "Right to Protection" held an information session on the topic "How to obtain the status of a child who suffered as a result of hostilities and armed conflicts."
An important part of the event was the exhibition of drawings, which were sent to the organizers from different parts of the region. All participants of the exhibition received diplomas from "The Tenth of April".

This event not only left pleasant memories for all participants, but also reminded of important values, that every person has the right to support and solidarity. And devotion to each other, common goals and help in difficult moments - this is what makes our world better.

In the third year of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, our people, state and local self-government bodies, international and national humanitarian organizations, are still faced with numerous challenges of forced displacement and assistance to the affected population.

In Odesa was held event for the World Refugee Day organized by civic organization "The Tenth of April" to discuss common ways of solving common issues.
 
As part of the event at the Community House, guests watched emotional videos about the stories of refugees and IDPs who will be a home in Ukraine despite the war, and even more — help others build it. Stories of children from displaced families about their everyday life and life during the invasion (video created with CESVI and NGO "Ya-Buchanets" with the support of Ukrainian Humanitarian Foundation (UHF)).
 
During the panel discussion "Forced displacement - challenges of society" they talked about
• challenges for refugees and asylum seekers in the process of integration into the host society. The problems of integration of refugees in the conditions of war;
• the most effective strategies for the support and adaptation of forcibly displaced persons that have been put into practice since the beginning of a full-scale invasion. Finding new approaches to support internally displaced persons in order to strengthen their capacity;
• strengthening the capacities of host communities
for the purpose of facilitating the adaptation of internally displaced persons and refugees;
• protection at the community level. Successful practices of interaction of local authorities and public organizations with communities of refugees and IDPs to overcome challenges in war conditions;
• effective integration and social adaptation of refugees in difficult war conditions. Mutual cooperation of refugees and IDPs in promoting their capacity building. Strength is in diversity: how cultures can interact.
