Improving the quality of life of evacuated Ukrainians

Improving the quality of life of evacuated Ukrainians.

With the support of the Humanitarian Foundation for Ukraine, a large-scale project to provide safe, decent and affordable housing for internally displaced persons has been launched in Kirovohrad, Cherkasy, Poltava and Dnipro regions.

The escalation of hostilities in eastern and southern Ukraine has provoked a new wave of urgent evacuations of residents of Donetsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions to the central regions. These are thousands of people, including hundreds of children and people with limited mobility. The evacuees are being accommodated in temporary housing and private homes. However, about 90 percent of the people who escaped from enemy shelling are now living in collective centers, dormitories, and modular towns. Unfortunately, many of the premises do not have proper accessibility for people with disabilities, the elderly and children. They need ramps, handrails, adapted sanitary and hygienic areas, kitchen sets, and spaces for leisure or educational activities for children. People also need legal assistance and psychological support.

The project will be implemented in 44 premises where evacuated Ukrainians are accommodated in four regions. At present, the staff of the NGO “The Tenth of April” is traveling around and finding out the urgent needs of people. The project is planned to be implemented in the next six months.
