NGO “THE TENTH OF APRIL”, in partnership with UNICEF, improves the living conditions of citizens in the area of water supply by:
- assessing and inspecting water supply systems and other water, sanitation and hygiene needs in settlements/hromadas/towns/villages;
- drilling and installing wells and reverse osmosis systems for institutions;
- repair and rehabilitation of water supply networks, including the purchase of equipment (pumps, pipes, fittings, valves, etc.) using sustainable solutions to meet the needs of water utilities;
- restoration of water supply facilities in schools and healthcare facilities;
- installing reverse osmosis systems for water purification in schools;
- identifying the needs and supplying chemicals for water purification to support water utilities in Mykolaiv and Odesa regions;
- providing emergency water supply via vehicles;
- distribution of bottled water.
A set of activities provided by the NGO “THE TENTH OF APRIL” to IDPs, local population affected by the war, and returnees in order to assist them in securing a sufficient level of income to meet their basic needs and maintain an acceptable standard of living.
The support includes pro bono support in the following areas:
- Writing effective CVs and cover letters;
- Development of job search strategies, including online job boards, useful social networks;
- Provision of educational and training opportunities, including financial literacy, to help individuals manage their finances, including budgeting and savings measures, etc;
- Legal explanations and guidance on employment issues, such as the rights and obligations of employers and employees, employment contracts, content, terms and conditions, other aspects of labour law, how to protect yourself, what are the risks when considering employment abroad, etc;
- Advisory services and mentoring on other employment issues (starting and managing a business, registering as a sole proprietor, reporting, etc.)
As part of its work with temporary accommodation centres for IDPs (hereinafter – Collective sites (CSs)), NGO “THE TENTH OF APRIL” provides comprehensive support, including improvement of living conditions and assistance in the integration of IDPs. The improvement of living conditions includes the provision of necessary household appliances, plumbing and other items that allow to equip the CSs in accordance with international standards and national legislation. Integration assistance includes information and other activities in accordance with the needs assessment of IDPs, we constantly communicate with those living in the CSs and help them to realise themselves in the new community, including through support for initiative groups and their projects, creating common spaces, etc.
In addition, we assist Collective sites managers in ensuring good governance, coordination, training, information, exchange of experience, etc.
We work closely with local authorities to ensure that we can best respond to the needs of IDPs, and coordinate the accomodationof newly arrived IDPs in the most appropriate CSs according to their needs.
We monitor the CSs on a weekly basis to ensure that our response is timely.
We also work to create new places for accomodation where needed and help to close CSs in a way that respects IDPs' rights.
Our main objective is to help IDPs feel dignified in their new living conditions.
NGO "The Tenth of April" supported by the UNHCR, provides free assistance to IDPs and war-affected population through:
- Distribution of emergency shelter kits (ESKs) for quick housing repairs in Odessa and Mykolaiv regions. This emergency assistance can be accessed via the hotline of the NGO "THE TENTH OF APRIL" or through local authorities by specifying the address, contacts, and type of housing damage.
- Monitoring and assessment of damaged housing to enable UNHCR to provide construction materials (in Odesa and Mykolaiv regions) or engage a contractor to carry out small or medium repairs to damaged housing (in Mykolaiv region). To implement this type of assistance, the assistance can be obtained upon contacting local authorities in case the damaged housing has not been assessed, or leave a request on the hotline of the NGO “THE TENTH OF APRIL”.

Distribution of insulation kits (RTKs) in Odessa, Mykolaiv, and Kirovohrad regions (project implemented in 2023; local authorities will be informed accordingly about participation opportunities in case the project continues).

Conducting repair works in temporary accommodation sites for IDPs in Odessa, Mykolaiv, and Kirovohrad regions, aimed at improving and creating new places for accomodation. For the purpose of this activity monitoring and assessment by CCCM specialists and engineers of the Organization is held.
The Gender-based Violence Unit works to identify violence and to help in restoring the rights of survivors.
Assistance includes information for the prevention of gender-based violence, full social support for survivors, including medical and legal assistance and protection.
